Getting started with Fanzone
Your Fanzone seasons
Learn how seasons structure your Fanzone gamification: duration, custom vs default seasons, leaderboards, currency, and reward distribution.
The season is the foundation of your gamified experience. It defines the period during which the gamification system you have chosen applies: all levels, ranks, currency earnings and leaderboards are calculated based on the duration you set.
What is a season for?
A season structures your Fanzone into defined periods. It works as a cycle during which all fan actions, progression and rewards are tracked and awarded. It is the building block that stars, levels, ranks and currency rely on.
Each season can include:
- gamified experiences (quiz, contest, bubble shooter, fortune wheel, etc.);
- a fan progression system (stars, levels);
- competitive leaderboards (weekly and global);
- virtual currency earnings;
- a customized reward shop.
Choose the duration of your season
A season can last from 1 week to 1 year, depending on your needs. This flexibility lets you align with your communication calendar, the duration of your campaigns or your sporting highlights (pre-season, events, playoffs).
Custom season or default season
Custom season
A custom season lets you define precisely the activity period of your Fanzone. It unlocks:
- a tier system (levels) adapted to the season duration and the Fanzone activity;
- a rank system adapted to that same duration;
- a complete economy with currency and a reward shop;
- a global leaderboard covering the entire season;
- a configurable deadline for spending end-of-season rewards.
Example: you launch a 2-month season during the playoffs, with a dedicated leaderboard, a special currency earned only during this period and a shop that closes 15 days after the end of the season.
Default season
The default season guarantees a minimum level of gamification over a standard period (1 year). It includes:
- a standard level system;
- a standard rank system;
- weekly leaderboards.
However, it includes neither a currency and reward system nor a global leaderboard covering the entire season.
Awarding leaderboard rewards
At the end of each leaderboard, rewards are automatically credited to the player's profile. For season leaderboards, players are credited as soon as the season ends, but have an additional period to spend their rewards. This delay is configured when you create your season.
Best practices
- Align the season duration with a key moment (a competition, a campaign) to give your fans a clear objective.
- Choose a custom season as soon as you want a currency, a shop and a global leaderboard: the default season does not include them.
- Set the spending deadline for end-of-season rewards from the start to give your fans time to enjoy them.
Concrete use cases
If you want to animate a competition
Create a custom season aligned with the duration of the competition, with its own currency and a global leaderboard that rewards the most dedicated fans at the end.
If you are getting started with gamification
Launch a default season to immediately activate levels, ranks and weekly leaderboards, then switch to a custom season when you are ready to add an economy.
