How to schedule opening and closing dates for a game or content Block?

Learn how to schedule opening and closing dates for your Fastory game or content Block, customize the closing message, and automate your experience's availability.

Fastory lets you schedule the opening and closing of your experience in advance. You set a start date and time and an end date and time, and your game or content opens and closes automatically, with no manual action needed on your part.

What is it for?

Scheduling lets you control the lifespan of your experience down to the minute. Instead of publishing and unpublishing your game by hand, you let the Studio do it for you.

In practice, it helps you:

  • Open your game at the exact moment of a launch, a match, or an event.
  • Automatically close entries once the period is over.
  • Show a custom message to visitors who arrive before the opening or after the closing.

How does it work?

Set up the schedule directly in the Studio, then publish your experience to activate it.

  1. Click Settings in the left-hand menu.
  1. Select the Game planification tab.
  1. Choose the time zone your schedule will be based on.
  1. Enter the opening date and time of the game.
  1. Enter the closing date and time of the game.
  1. Write the message that will be displayed when the game closes.
  1. Go to the Publish tab of your Studio.
  1. Choose your experience URL and publish it.

Once these steps are complete, participants can access your game from the opening date you selected until the closing date. For a detailed guide on this last step, see How to publish my mobile experience?

Customize the closing message

The closing message replaces the Start button of your experience. After the end date, your visitors will see it instead of the usual button.

It automatically uses the button style defined in your theme, which keeps its appearance consistent with the rest of your experience. Take the opportunity to write a clear text that says the game is over and, if needed, invites visitors to come back later.

Clear a scheduled date

You can delete a saved date and time at any time using the date picker:

  1. Click the calendar in the field of the date you want to clear.
  1. Click clear.

Add a countdown

In addition to scheduling, you can display a countdown to generate virality and anticipation around your campaign. To learn how to set it up, see How to display a countdown on my experience?

Hide or show a screen

You can also schedule the display of one or more screens of your experience, to adjust what participants see depending on the moment. The details are explained in How to show or hide a screen of my experience?

Best practices

  • Check the time zone before entering your dates: it determines the actual opening and closing time.
  • Write a short, engaging closing message, since it will replace the Start button once the game is over.
  • Republish your experience after any change to the dates so the changes take effect.
  • Combine scheduling with a countdown to build anticipation before the opening.
  • Test the published URL ahead of time to make sure everything is ready on the big day.

Concrete use cases

If you want to run a contest over a specific period

Fill in the opening date and time as well as the closing date and time. Your contest becomes accessible at launch and automatically stops accepting entries at the deadline.

If you want to build anticipation before the opening

Schedule your opening date, then add a countdown. Visitors see the time remaining before they can participate, which keeps the excitement going around your campaign.

If you want to close your experience at the end of an event

Enter a closing date and time that matches the end of your event. After that moment, your closing message is displayed instead of the Start button.

FAQ

Do I need to republish my experience after changing the dates in the Fastory Studio?

Yes. The schedule applies once you publish your experience from the Publish tab. After each change to the dates, republish so the changes take effect.

What do participants see once the game is closed on Fastory?

The closing message you wrote is displayed instead of the Start button. Your visitors understand that the entry period is over.

Can I schedule only an opening date or only a closing date?

Yes. Each date is managed independently: you can clear one of them using the date picker by clicking the calendar and then clear, and keep only the one you need.

Why do I need to choose a time zone in Fastory?

Because your entire schedule is based on this time zone. It determines the actual time your game opens and closes for participants.

Can I display a countdown in addition to the scheduled dates?

Yes. In addition to scheduling, Fastory lets you add a countdown to generate virality and anticipation around your campaign.

How to customize the appearance of the closing message?

The message automatically uses the button style defined in the theme of your Fastory experience. It matches the design of your game with no extra configuration.
