GDPR, customize the Cookies Consent notification
Learn how to customize the Cookies Consent notification on your Fastory experience to collect valid GDPR consent and track each visitor's choice in your CSV export.
Fastory lets you validly collect your audience's consent before any cookies are placed or read. You can fully customize the consent notification displayed on your experience.
What is it for?
Under the European directive, visitors must be informed and give their consent before any trackers are placed. They must also be able to opt out of being tracked when they visit a website or use an application. Fastory therefore asks users for their consent before giving them access to the content.
Once a visitor has accepted the consent notification, it no longer appears for subsequent content.
Set up the Cookies Consent notification
- Open your experience, then go to the Publish tab.
- Open the Personal data section.
- Customize the different elements of the notification: the link to your privacy policy, the title, the text, the buttons, and the cookie categories.
- Publish your experience to apply your settings.
The customizable elements
The link to your privacy policy
You customize the clickable text that redirects your audience to your privacy policy, the one available online on your website.
The notification title and text
You customize the title and text displayed to give your audience details about how cookies are used on the experience.
The buttons
You customize the wording of each button in the notification.
The cookie categories
There are three cookie categories. Among them, you choose which ones are associated with your script placed in the Tag Manager:
- Essential: no consent required. These cookies are automatically accepted and cannot be disabled by the participant. They are necessary for the experience to work and guarantee the security of the game.
- Personalization: subject to consent. These cookies are used to display advertising or perform personalized targeting. They can also help measure advertising effectiveness.
- Analytics: subject to consent. They measure the experience's traffic and help understand how it is used.
Retrieving consent in the CSV
In your CSV export, you can see whether each visitor accepted or declined the notification. Three columns detail their choice: essential_consent, setup_consent, and analytics_consent. The value is True if the visitor accepted, and False if they declined. Finally, the consentExpirationDate column shows the consent expiration date, meaning the last day the cookie can legally be used.
Best practices
- Fill in the link to your online privacy policy to stay compliant.
- Write a clear title and text about how cookies are used on the experience.
- Classify your cookies correctly (essential, personalization, analytics) according to the scripts placed in the Tag Manager.
- Check how the notification looks before publishing your experience.
- To associate your scripts with the right categories, refer to the article How to use the Tag Manager.
