- ranking fans in leaderboards: in points mode, the leaderboard ranks players by their raw score, which limits ties;
- serving as the basis for star calculation: it is the score in points, measured against the game's objectives, that determines the number of stars earned (up to 5).
Points or stars: what's the difference?
- Points are the detailed score of a game session (for example 1,480 points on a quiz). They change with every point scored and are used to rank players precisely.
- Stars are a performance rating from 0 to 5, derived from the score. They are what make a fan progress through levels and ranks.
In practice, a fan who plays accumulates points; depending on the thresholds reached, those points translate into stars.
