How to share your experience with a QR code?

Learn how to download your experience's QR code from Fastory and how participants can scan it on iPhone or Android to access your content instantly.

A QR code lets anyone open your experience with a single scan, without typing an address. This article explains how to generate this QR code from Fastory and how to scan it on mobile.

What is it for?

Once your experience is published, it is accessible through a URL (which you can customize). The QR code offers a second entry point: it encodes this URL as an image, which your participants can scan with their phone's camera to access the content directly. It is the ideal way to connect a physical medium to your online experience.

Get a QR code

First, make sure your experience is published: see the article How to publish my mobile experience? if needed. It will then be accessible through a URL.

To download the corresponding QR code:

  1. Go to the Publish tab, then the Publication sub-tab.
  1. Hover over QR code, on the right, then click Download.
  1. Save the QR code in .SVG format.

You can also get it directly from your workspace, through an experience's options.

Scan the QR code

The QR code can be scanned with most recent smartphones, without any dedicated app.

With an iPhone

Since iOS 11 (2017), the iPhone has a built-in QR code reader. You have two options:

  • Use the code scanner through the dedicated app or through the iPhone's control center.
  • Or open the camera, frame the QR code until a notification appears, then tap this notification to open the content.

With an Android

  1. Go to Google Assistant to open Google Lens.
  1. Point the camera at the QR code and wait for a blue dot to appear in its center.
  1. Tap this blue dot to open the QR code's content.

Third-party apps

You generally don't need an app. But if none of the methods above work, due to the age of your device, you can always use a dedicated app like Barcode Scanner.

Best practices

  • Publish your experience before generating the QR code: this published URL is the one that will be encoded.
  • Keep the .SVG format: this vector format stays sharp at any display or print size.
  • Always test the QR code by scanning it yourself before distributing it.
  • If you have customized your experience's URL, check that it is up to date before downloading the QR code.

Concrete use cases

If you want to share your experience on printed material

Add the QR code to a poster, a flyer or packaging. Your participants scan the code and access the experience immediately, without having to copy an address.

If you want to run an event or a booth

Display the QR code on a roll-up banner, a screen or a totem. Visitors launch the experience from their own phone in a few seconds.

If you want to share from a screen

Add the QR code to a presentation, a video or a screen displayed in a room: the audience can scan it from a distance to join the experience.

FAQ

In what format is the QR code downloaded on Fastory?

The QR code is downloaded in .SVG format. This vector format keeps perfect quality, whether you display it small on a flyer or large on a poster.

Do I need to publish my experience before generating the QR code?

Yes. The QR code encodes the URL of your published experience: start by publishing it, then download the corresponding QR code.

Where can I find an experience's QR code in Fastory?

It is available in the Publish tab, Publication sub-tab, on the right of the screen. You can also get it directly from your workspace, through the experience's options.

Can I generate the QR code without going through the Publish tab?

Yes. In addition to the Publish tab, Fastory lets you download the QR code directly from your workspace, through an experience's options.

Do I need an app to scan a Fastory QR code?

No, in most cases. iPhones (since iOS 11) and recent Android devices read QR codes natively with the camera or Google Lens. An app like Barcode Scanner is only useful for older devices.

Does the same principle apply to sharing a Fanzone?

A QR code simply encodes a URL: the scanning mechanism stays the same regardless of the target page. This article covers sharing an experience published on Fastory.
