Fastory Studio
How do I insert game rules into my experience?
Learn how to add your game rules to a Fastory experience, either in the Bot with explicit acceptance or as a PDF link at the bottom of a screen.
Rules are an essential part of any contest. Fastory lets you embed them directly into your experience, in two possible places: in the Bot or at the bottom of a screen. Here is how to do it in each case.
What is it for?
Inserting your rules into the experience makes it easy for participants to read them, and optionally to accept them before playing. Depending on your needs, you can:
- Explicitly ask participants to accept the rules.
- Display the rules for information only, without requiring validation.
These settings can be configured either in your experience's Bot or directly at the bottom of a screen.
Insert your rules in the Bot
In the Bot, you have two options: explicitly ask participants to accept the rules, or simply display them for information.
Ask for explicit acceptance
Add the Legal notice message type to the Bot, then set everything up as follows:
- Type the message or question to display.
- Customize the button that will open the window containing the rules.
- Define the answer options.
- Copy and paste the full text of your rules into the dedicated field.
Display the rules for information only
In your Bot, select the text that will link to the PDF, then click the PDF icon. Once the file is inserted, the LINK icon, located right next to the PDF icon, turns blue: this confirms the document is properly attached.
Insert a PDF file in a screen
You can also make the rules available at the bottom of a screen, in PDF format.
- Add a Text component to your screen.
- Select the text that will link to the PDF.
- Click the PDF icon to insert the file.
- Check that the LINK icon, located right next to the PDF icon, turns blue.
Best practices
- Copy and paste the full text of your rules into the Legal notice field, not just an excerpt.
- Only ask for explicit acceptance when participant consent is required, to avoid making the journey unnecessarily heavy.
- Give the button a clear label so participants understand it opens the rules.
- After inserting a PDF, make sure the LINK icon has turned blue before publishing.
- Choose the information-only display when acceptance is not required.
Concrete use cases
If you want to collect participants' consent
Add the Legal notice message to the Bot, customize the button that opens the rules and paste the full text into the dedicated field. Participants will then have to interact with this message before continuing.
If you simply want to make the rules available
Go for the information-only display: select a text in the Bot, insert the PDF via the PDF icon, and your participants will be able to read it freely without an acceptance step.
If your rules are a PDF document
Make them available at the bottom of a screen: add a Text component, select the clickable text and attach the file via the PDF icon.
FAQ
Where can I insert my game rules in a Fastory experience?
You can insert them in two places: in your experience's Bot or at the bottom of a screen. The choice depends on how prominent you want the rules to be in the journey.
What is the difference between asking for acceptance and an information-only display?
With explicit acceptance, participants must interact with the Legal notice message to validate the rules. With the information-only display, the rules are simply made available, without any validation step.
How do I get participants to explicitly accept the rules in the Fastory Bot?
Add the Legal notice message type to the Bot, type your message, customize the opening button, define the answer options, then paste the full text of your rules into the dedicated field.
Can I insert my rules as a PDF in my experience?
Yes. Select the text that should link to the document, then click the PDF icon. This option is available both in the Bot and on a screen.
How do I know if my PDF was inserted correctly?
