How to unpublish an experience?

Learn how to unpublish a Fastory experience without deleting it, what visitors see once it is closed, and how to put it back online at any time.

Your game has ended and you want to make its content inaccessible? Fastory lets you unpublish an experience at any time, then put it back online whenever you want. That way, you stay in control of what your audience can see.

What is it for?

Unpublishing an experience makes it inaccessible to the public without deleting it. Its content stays stored in your Studio: you can publish and unpublish your experience as you wish, as many times as needed. This is useful when a game or campaign comes to an end, or when you are preparing a new version before putting it back online.

How does it work?

There are two ways to unpublish your experience.

From the editor

  1. Go to your experience's Studio, then open the Publish tab.
  1. Click Unpublish.

Your experience is now unpublished: its online content is no longer accessible. Visitors who try to access it see a message letting them know the experience is no longer available.

To put it back online, simply click Publish the Experience.

From the workspace

You can also unpublish your experience without opening the editor. From your workspace, click the ... menu of the relevant experience, then choose to unpublish it.

Manual or automatic closing

  • Manual closing: you open and close your experience yourself, whenever you decide, from the Publish tab or from the workspace.
  • Automatic closing: you can schedule opening and closing dates so your experience is published and unpublished on its own. To set this up, see the article How to schedule opening and closing dates for the game?

Best practices

  • Check that your experience is properly unpublished by visiting it yourself: you should see the message indicating it is no longer accessible.
  • Choose unpublishing over deleting when a game has simply ended: you keep its content and can put it back online at any time.
  • If you already know the end date, opt for automatic closing so you don't have to step in manually on the day.
  • Remember to unpublish finished experiences to keep your audience from accessing content that is no longer current.
