Getting started with Fanzone

Bracket !

Learn how the Bracket Block turns any sports competition into a prediction game on your Fanzone, with two scoring modes, phase bonuses, and full Analytics to track engagement and loyalty.

The Bracket game invites your participants to predict the results of matches in a sports competition. They earn stars and points based on the accuracy of their predictions, then climb the leaderboard throughout the tournament.

What is it for?

The Bracket Block turns a competition (World Cup, championship, in-house tournament) into an engaging prediction experience on your Fanzone. Before each match, participants predict the final score. Once the match is over, their predictions are compared to the actual result and their score is calculated automatically.

Depending on the configuration you choose, participants can be rewarded:

  • for correctly picking the match winner;
  • for finding the exact score;
  • for predicting an underdog when odds are enabled;
  • through phase bonuses that reward consistency and performance across an entire round of the competition.

The goal stays simple: make the best possible predictions to compete against the other participants from the start of the competition to the end.

How does it work?

  1. The Bracket follows the competition schedule, organized into phases (rounds) and matches.
  1. Before each match, participants enter their prediction for the final score.
  1. Once the match has been played, the actual result is recorded and predictions are compared automatically.
  1. Each participant receives stars and points based on the scoring mode configured for the operation.
  1. Scores feed the leaderboard, which evolves as matches and phases go by.

Predicting by phase or day by day

You can let participants predict all the matches of a phase, or enable the Day by day option. In this mode, predictions open at 00:00 on match day and close 15 minutes before kick-off. This rhythm encourages participants to come back to the Fanzone regularly.

The two scoring modes

The scoring system is fully configurable and works in two modes.

  1. Points + Odds: rewards the hardest predictions more, using team odds.
  1. Stars + Points (no odds): a simpler mode that rewards participants' accuracy without taking odds into account.

Scoring with Points + Odds

In this mode, points depend on the predicted winner, the exact score, a potential underdog bonus, and phase bonuses.

Situation
Reward
Correct winner (team A win, team B win, or draw)
100 points × the winner's odds
Exact score (stacks with the correct winner)
+300 points
Wrong winner (even with a close score)
0 points
Underdog bonus (winner with odds above 3.00)
100 fixed points + (50 points × the odds)

Calculation examples

  • Correct winner only: France vs Senegal, France odds 1.6, prediction 3-1, result 1-0. Correct winner validated, exact score not. Reward: 100 × 1.6 = 160 points.
  • Exact score: same match, prediction 3-1, result 3-1. Reward: (100 × 1.6) + 300 = 460 points.
  • Underdog bonus: Curaçao vs Germany, Curaçao odds 3.5, prediction 1-0, result 2-1. Correct winner validated. Reward: (100 × 3.5) + 100 + (50 × 3.5) = 350 + 275 = 625 points.

Scoring with Stars + Points (no odds)

In this mode, no odds are used. Participants earn stars and points.

Result

The Exact score bonus (+2 stars and +300 points) always stacks with the Correct winner bonus (+1 star and +150 points). When odds are not enabled, no underdog bonus is available.

Phase bonuses

Phase bonuses are calculated automatically once a phase is fully completed. To be eligible, a participant must have predicted every active match of the phase: a single missing prediction cancels the bonus.

+200 points

+500 points
Perfect combination (correct winners + exact scores)
+700 points

Rules to keep in mind

  • Scores are calculated based only on the result at the end of regulation time. Extra time and penalty shootouts are not taken into account.
  • The exact score always stacks with the correct winner.
  • The underdog bonus only exists when odds are enabled and the winner has odds above 3.00.
  • The maximum number of stars per match is 3 without odds, and 4 with odds (one extra star for a correctly predicted underdog).

Track your Bracket's performance

Once the Bracket is live, an Analytics tab lets you track the game's performance and better understand participant engagement. Statistics are organized into several views.

List view

It gathers the workspace's different Brackets along with their number of participants.

Overview view

It gives you a global picture of the Bracket at a glance.

Indicator
What it tells you
Total predictions
The total number of predictions made on the Bracket
Unique participants
The number of different participants who played
Winners
The number of participants who earned at least one star
Scored matches
The number of matches whose results have been taken into account
Completed phases
The number of fully completed phases
Average stars / match
The average number of stars earned per match
Average points / match
The average number of points earned per match

By phase view

It analyzes participants' performance for each round of the competition: number of participants, average stars and points, share of correct winners, share of exact scores, number of phase bonus winners, and number of perfect phases. This view helps you spot the most engaging or the most difficult phases.

Leaderboard view

The Leaderboard displays the Bracket's top 20 participants. For each one, you can see their rank, username, avatar, total score, number of stars, and prediction ratio per match. The leaderboard can be filtered by phase to identify the best performers on a specific round.

Understand participant loyalty

The Analytics tab also measures whether participants come back to play several times during the competition. This analysis relies on the notion of an activity day: a day on which a participant made or edited their predictions. Several actions on the same day count as a single activity day; coming back on another day adds a new activity day. This reading is especially useful when the Day by day option is enabled.

Participation breakdown

This section shows how many different days participants came back to play, as a table and a chart.

Activity days
How to read it
1
Participant who came a single day
2-3
Participant who came back occasionally
4-5
Participant who came back regularly
6+
Highly engaged participant who came back several days during the competition

This statistic includes all participants, including anonymous ones.

Participant retention

Retention measures the share of participants who come back to play after their first participation, with milestones over time (for example D+7, D+10, D+20, D+30, D+90, and D+180). A participant is considered retained at D+7 if at least 7 days have passed between their first and last activity day. Over a recent period, the last points on the curve may look lower, because some participants have not yet had time to come back.

New vs returning

This section summarizes loyalty in two categories: a New participant came on a single activity day, a Returning participant came back on at least two days. Three views are available: a new/returning chart, a weekly breakdown, and a recurrence rate curve over time.

Good to know: loyalty statistics only appear when the analysis covers the entire Bracket. If a specific match is selected in the filters, these sections are hidden, because loyalty is measured over several days, not on a single match. These statistics respect the filters already applied in the Analytics tab, such as the selected Bracket and the chosen period.

Best practices

  • Choose the scoring mode based on your audience: Points + Odds for a rich mechanic, Stars + Points for an experience that is easy to understand.
  • Enable the Day by day option to pace the competition and encourage participants to come back every day.
  • Communicate the scoring rules clearly so participants understand how to earn points.
  • Remind participants to predict every match of a phase to stay eligible for phase bonuses.
  • Check the Analytics tab regularly to track participation, average performance, and loyalty.

Concrete use cases

If you want to reward bold predictions

Enable the Points + Odds mode. The underdog bonus (odds above 3.00) strongly rewards participants who dare to bet on an unlikely win, and it is a proven way to add excitement.

If you want a mechanic that is easy to understand

Go for the Stars + Points (no odds) mode. Rewards are easy to read (1 star for the correct winner, 3 stars for the exact score) and require no knowledge of odds.

If you want participants to come back throughout the tournament

Enable the Day by day option and follow the Retention and New vs returning sections of the Analytics tab to measure the Bracket's ability to bring your audience back.

If you want to reward consistency

Rely on phase bonuses. By requiring participants to predict every match of a round, you reward those who stay committed until the end of each phase.

FAQ

How do participants make their predictions on the Fanzone?

Before each match, they enter the final score they expect directly in the Fanzone's Bracket Block. Once the match is over, Fastory compares their prediction to the actual result and calculates their score automatically.

What is the difference between the two scoring modes?

The Points + Odds mode uses team odds and adds an underdog bonus, which rewards difficult predictions more. The Stars + Points (no odds) mode is simpler: it grants stars and fixed points based on accuracy, without using odds.

What happens if a participant forgets to predict a match in a phase?

They lose their eligibility for the phase bonus on that round. On Fastory, a single missing prediction among the active matches of the phase means no phase bonus is awarded.

Are extra time and penalty shootouts taken into account?

No. The score calculation is based only on the result at the end of regulation time, whichever scoring mode is selected.

How many stars can you earn per match at most?

Without odds, the maximum is 3 stars per match (1 for the winner, 2 for the exact score). With odds enabled, a correctly predicted underdog adds one star, bringing the maximum to 4 stars.

Where can I track my Bracket's performance?

In the Bracket's Analytics tab, once the game is live. There you will find the List, Overview, By phase, and Leaderboard views, as well as participant loyalty indicators.
