Moderate photo and video entries
Learn how to moderate photo and video entries in Fastory selfie contests: enable pre-moderation, approve or censor content, handle player reports, and delete participant data on request.
A photo or video contest gives your fans a voice: they submit their own content, vote, and share. Moderation lets you keep control over what is published in the gallery, handle reports, and remove content at any time.
What is it for?
Moderation applies to selfie contest experiences, where participants submit a photo or video that appears in a public gallery and is open to votes.
It lets you validate content before it is published, remove inappropriate content even after publication, handle content reported by players, and permanently delete an entry.
Only content with the Online status appears in the public gallery. Pending, censored, or deleted content is never visible to other players.
Enable pre-moderation
By default, photos are published as soon as they are submitted. To validate each piece of content before publication:
- Open your experience in the editor.
- In the selfie contest game settings, enable the Participation requires moderation option.
- Publish your experience.
With this option, each new entry arrives with the Pending status and only appears in the gallery after your approval.
Access moderation
- Open the Experiences page of your workspace.
- On the relevant experience, open the actions menu and click Moderate.
- If the experience contains several selfie games, a window asks you which one to moderate.
Moderation access is also open to members with the moderator role, without access to the rest of the back office.
Main features
The four moderation statuses
The moderation screen is organized into four tabs, with a counter for each status:
Tab | Content |
Online | Entries visible in the public gallery |
Pending | Entries awaiting validation, invisible to players |
Reported | Entries reported by a player, removed from the gallery |
Censored | Entries you have rejected, invisible to players |
Moderate an entry
Three actions are available on each entry:
- Approve: the content switches to the Online status and appears in the gallery.
- Censor: the content is removed from the gallery but remains available in the Censored tab.
- Delete: the content is permanently erased, after confirmation. This action is irreversible.
The Full screen button displays the photo or video at a larger size so you can review it carefully before deciding.
Moderate in bulk
To handle a large volume of entries:
- Select the entries you want to process, or use Select all.
- Open the Actions menu.
- Apply Approve, Censor, or Delete to the whole selection.
Sort and filter
Several tools make the review easier:
- Sort by: most recent first, or by vote count in ascending or descending order
- View: the number of entries per page, from 10 to 100
- a time period filter: this week, this month, the last 30 days, and more
- Refresh to reload the list during a key moment
Player reports
On the player side, any content in the gallery can be reported. Reported content immediately moves to the Reported tab and disappears from the gallery. The workspace moderators receive an email with a direct link to the moderation screen. It is then up to you to approve it again or censor it.
What the player sees
- As long as their entry is Pending, it does not appear in the public gallery.
- An Approved entry becomes visible and can receive votes.
- A Censored or Reported entry disappears from the gallery.
Delete a participant's data
As part of the right to erasure, you can delete all of a participant's data from the Audience page:
- Open the Audience page and search for the contact, for example by email.
- Click the contact to open their profile.
- Click Delete this contact and confirm.
Deletion is permanent: the contact, their attributes, opt-ins, consents, and all their entries are erased. You can also select several contacts in the table and delete them at once.
To empty an entire segment, the segment menu offers Delete all data: all data matching the segment's filters is erased and cannot be recovered.
Best practices
- Enable pre-moderation for any contest aimed at the general public: it is better to validate before publishing than to remove content afterwards.
- During a key moment (a match, a launch event), keep the Pending tab open and use Refresh regularly.
- When in doubt, prefer Censor over Delete: censoring is reversible, deletion is not.
- Handle Reported content first: it has already been removed from the gallery and your players are waiting for a decision.
- Sorting by descending votes helps you review the most visible content first.
Concrete use cases
If you launch a photo contest for a club, validate each piece of content before publication
Enable Participation requires moderation in the editor. During the campaign, check the Pending tab every day and approve the content that complies with your rules.
If inappropriate content is reported during a match, handle it in seconds
You receive the report email, open the link to the moderation screen, review the content in Full screen, then censor it or put it back online. The gallery stays clean without disrupting the event.
If a participant asks you to delete their data, use their Audience profile
Search for their email on the Audience page, open their profile, and click Delete this contact. Their entries and personal data are permanently erased.
FAQ
How do I validate photos before publication in a Fastory contest?
Enable the Participation requires moderation option in the selfie contest game settings. Each entry then arrives with the Pending status and only appears in the public gallery after your approval in the moderation screen.
Where is the entry moderation screen in Fastory?
From the Experiences page of your workspace, open the actions menu of the relevant experience and click Moderate. The screen has four tabs: Online, Pending, Reported, and Censored.
What does a player see when their entry has been censored?
Their entry disappears from the public gallery and can no longer receive votes. Only content with the Online status is visible to other players.
What happens when a player reports content in the gallery?
The content immediately moves to the Reported status and disappears from the gallery. The workspace moderators receive an email with a direct link to the moderation screen to decide: put it back online or censor it.
What is the difference between censoring and deleting an entry?
Censoring removes the content from the gallery while keeping it in the Censored tab: you can approve it again later. Deleting permanently erases the entry, with no way to recover it.
How do I delete a participant's data to comply with a GDPR request?
Search for the contact on the Audience page, open their profile, and click Delete this contact. Deletion is permanent and covers their attributes, opt-ins, consents, and entries. You can also delete several contacts at once from the table.
